We usually respond within two weeks
Oritain is the global leader in product verification, with locations in Auckland, Dunedin, London, Singapore and Washington D.C. Our vision is to be the source of truth in global supply chains, and our mission is to protect people and the planet by harnessing science, technology and services to build a community of origin verified buyers and suppliers.
The Opportunity
Live and work in beautiful Dunedin. A vibrant city that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich heritage, and modern innovation. We’re looking for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to be based at our modern central Dunedin offices to support and evolve the operational backbone of our core applications. In this role you’ll keep critical services reliable, secure, and performant day-to-day, while progressively modernising components as new technologies land on our roadmap. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy, partnering closely with engineering teams in Auckland and London to ensure smooth operations and thoughtful change.
What you’ll do
· Maintain & improve production systems across our primary operational platforms, safeguarding uptime, quality, and customer outcomes.
· Diagnose and fix issues across the stack, from application code to cloud infrastructure, prioritising pragmatic solutions and clear communication with stakeholders.
· Plan and execute incremental upgrades, refactors, and migrations that reduce operational risk while preparing the path for our next-gen platform.
· Automate routine operations (observability, alerts, deployments, backups) to raise reliability and reduce toil.
· Collaborate across time zones, working seamlessly with peers in Auckland and London on incident response, release planning, and technical decisions.
· Champion customer empathy, translating needs into stable, trustworthy services and communicating trade-offs clearly.
What you’ll bring
· Deep hands-on experience building and running services in .NET on Microsoft Azure (App Service, Functions, storage, networking, identity), with solid CI/CD practices (e.g., Azure DevOps).
· Polyglot mindset: comfortable picking up new languages/tools as required (PowerShell, Bash, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, etc.), and working across APIs, UIs, data, and infra as the situation demands.
· Operational excellence: strong grasp of reliability engineering, monitoring/metrics, incident management, and secure-by-default design.
· Autonomy & ownership: proven track record operating as a self-starter who can manage priorities, communicate proactively, and deliver without heavy line management.
· Customer-friendly communicator: able to collaborate with internal users, product teams, and engineers to keep services healthy and changes well-understood.
Nice to have
· Experience with React/Angular front-ends, .NET APIs, and modern SPA patterns (for effective troubleshooting and pragmatic fixes).
· Familiarity with Terraform/IaC, containers, and security controls in Azure.
· Exposure to regulated or data-sensitive environments where reliability and integrity are paramount.
The engineering environment
We’re a cloud-native Azure organisation with a modern stack centered on .NET for services and React/Angular for front-ends, deployed via automated pipelines. You’ll collaborate with high-performing teams and contribute to a pragmatic, delivery-focused culture.
Why join us
· Impact: You’ll be the steady hand ensuring our core systems are dependable and meet customer needs
· Autonomy: Space to make thoughtful decisions, improve systems, and ship well-engineered change.
· Collegial culture: Partner with talented engineers in Auckland and London, supported by clear goals and a mission that matters.
